1.GI tag for Madhya Pradesh Rice

Rice is produced in almost 13 districts of Madhya Pradesh and nearly 8000 farmers of the state are engaged in rice cultivation. Therefore, it becomes important for the state government to think about the welfare of such a large number of farmers. Hence, in the same respect to keep the interests of state's farmers, the chief minister of Madhya Pradesh, Shivaraj Singh Chouhan conducted a meeting to talk about the Geographical Indication tag for the Basmati rice produced in the state. The GI tag indicates the geographic origin of the particular product.

The tag indication becomes even more important because ₹3000 crores of rice are exported to different foreign countries from Madhya Pradesh. Apart from Madhya Pradesh, there are several other states that use Geographical Indication for their state's products.

During the meeting, the Chief Ministry asked the Union Agriculture and Farmers' welfare minister Narendra Singh Tomar to get the GI tags for the rice of Madhya Pradesh.

2. Now farmers can sell their crops anywhere in India and get the best price for their products.

The Agriculture ministry has established two new reforms under the Farmers Agreement on Price Assurance and Farm Services Ordinance 2020 in the agriculture sector. It will enable farmers to sell their crops all over the nation without any restrictions and get the best price for their crops hence it will assure farmers that they will get a good price for their crops that means a good return of their investments.

According to The Union Agriculture Minister this will remove the gap between agriculture and other sectors. He also said that KVKs (Krishi Vigyan Kendra) are playing an important role in Indian agriculture as they are ensuring that all small scale farmers have access to government schemes and subsidies as well as that they adopt healthy agricultural practices like using saving water during irrigation, soil testing etc. They also play an important role in promoting cluster farming.

There are a total of 720 KVKs along with 151climate smart villages in India giving training to almost 15 Lakh farmers every year. According to Narendra Singh Tomar the Indian minister of agriculture & farmers’ welfare, rural development & panchayati raj there are 86 finely working KVKs in UP while establishment of 20 more KVKs had been approved and 17 among them are already working as well as a new KVK has been proposed for Moradabad.

The Food and Agriculture Organisation has alerted the farmers to enhance the capacity of their crop protection.  Keeping in view all this the agriculture ministry has strengthened their aerial Spraying capacity for anti locust operations. 15 drones have been deployed to keep a watch on locust attacks. 5.
