Drones are unmanned aerial vehicles that are increasingly being used in Indian agriculture to help farmers manage fields more efficiently. These farming drones can perform tasks that would otherwise require manual labour and time, and can improve precision in spraying and crop monitoring. Modern drones can carry payloads and are designed to work in varied farm conditions, making them useful for large and small landholders.

Farming Drones in India and Their Uses

In India, farming drones are mainly used for spraying pesticides, fertilisers and herbicides over crops, which reduces the drudgery of manual spraying and cuts down on chemical use. These drones are also used for crop monitoring and field mapping, allowing farmers to assess crop health, drainage patterns and soil conditions from above without walking the entire field. Some drones are equipped with cameras that help in surveillance and early detection of pest infestations or nutrient deficiencies. The Government of India has regularised drone use through drone rules and schemes, and supports farmers with subsidies for buying these machines.

Price Details of Drones

The average price of agricultural drones in India starts from around Rs 1.50 Lakh and can vary widely depending on the brand and technology of the drone. Basic spray drones and simple monitoring drones are priced at lower ranges, while more advanced precision drones with GPS navigation and autonomous flight capabilities cost significantly more. Survey drones used for land and soil analysis start from around Rs 2 Lakh and up. The exact farming drone price depends on model specifications and dealer location, and may also change with state subsidies and incentives that farmers can apply for to reduce the upfront cost.
