What are the different types of potato planters?

Ans.

Potato planters are agricultural machines designed to plant potato tubers efficiently and uniformly. Based on farm size and technology, there are several types of potato planters.

Manual potato planters are hand-operated tools suitable for small farms. They are affordable and easy to use, but require more labour and time.

Semi-automatic planters are usually tractor-mounted and involve manual feeding of tubers. These are ideal for medium-sized farms, offering moderate efficiency.

Automatic potato planters are fully mechanised, handling tuber feeding, fertiliser application, and covering in a single pass. They are best suited for large-scale commercial farming, offering high speed and uniformity, though they come at a higher cost.

Planters also vary by row capacity: 2-row, 4-row, or multi-row planters increase productivity depending on the tractor’s power and the farm’s size. Another advanced type is the fertilizer-cum-potato planter, which plants tubers and applies fertiliser simultaneously, saving time and improving yields.
