ITL to Produce Tractors in Kazakhstan Under $120 Million Deal

India's tractor manufacturing footprint just got a fresh international push. International Tractors Limited (ITL), the company behind the Sonalika and Solis brands, has signed a $120 million agreement with Kazakhstani industrial company SP BKM to assemble and locally produce tractors in Kazakhstan. The deal was struck during the Kazakhstan-India Business, Trade and Investment Forum, and it's a pretty significant step for Indian tractor makers looking to expand beyond domestic borders.

What Does the ITL-SP BKM Agreement Cover?

The agreement isn't just about shipping tractors over; it covers the full pipeline, including supplies, local assembly, a gradual increase in local content over time, and setting up sales and service networks for both tractors and other agricultural machinery within Kazakhstan. Essentially, ITL is looking to build a genuine manufacturing presence in the region rather than simply exporting finished units.

The Bigger Picture: India-Kazakhstan Trade Push

The deals were not concluded in isolation – they were part of a broader business forum which saw more than 110 participants from Kazakhstan, representing some 65 companies from the engineering, agricultural, food, light manufacturing, pharmaceutical, construction, oil and gas, IT and logistics sectors. Kazakhstan has indicated its desire to expand trade relations with India. It has identified some 95 commodity categories with an export potential of about $ 313 million, including metals, chemicals, food, construction and engineering products.
