GoSun, an Ohio-based solar appliance company, has teamed up with Indian manufacturer Moonrider to roll out an all-electric tractor that can literally charge itself off sunlight. Yes, a tractor that farms and charges at the same time.

What are the Features of GoSun's Electric Tractor?

The tractor has a 27 HP motor and runs on a 24 kWh lithium iron phosphate battery, the same battery chemistry known for being safe, stable, and long-lasting. On a full charge, you're looking at around five hours of work time, which is sufficient for a day of light-to-medium farm chores.

The optional 1.1 kW solar array, on a sunny day can give out another 1.5 hours of runtime without ever plugging into the grid.

There's also a standard 220V AC charging option for when the clouds don't cooperate, plus an optional generator add-on that turns the tractor into a portable power bank for your electric tools. Basically, it's a farm vehicle and a backup power station rolled into one.

Built Like an Actual Workhorse

Don't let the "solar-powered" label fool you into thinking this is a lightweight toy. It's four-wheel drive, weighs almost 1095 kg, and can lift up to 750 kg on its hitch. The rear PTO is 22.8 hp at 540/540E, which means it can run standard farm implements without hassle.

It also comes with a 9-speed forward, 3-speed reverse constant-mesh transmission, oil-immersed brakes, a dry single clutch, and a surprisingly tight 1.4 m turning radius, handy if you're maneuvering in tight barn spaces or between rows.

Why This Actually Matters

GoSun's CEO Mr Patrick Sherwin said, “With our new All-Electric Tractor, we are empowering farmers and land managers to literally work in the sunshine—reducing operational costs while protecting the soil and air.

Tractor Gyan's Take

Five hours of runtime plus a solar top-up isn't going to replace a diesel tractor on a 500-acre commercial farm anytime soon, but for small farms and property maintenance people, this thing hits a real sweet spot.

The 750 kg hitch capacity and proper PTO output mean it's not just a novelty; it can actually pull implements and do real work. Solar charging is more of a nice bonus than a full replacement for grid power right now.

But as battery technology and solar efficiency keep improving, expect these numbers only to get better. If GoSun prices it competitively, this could genuinely nudge small-scale agriculture toward going electric.
