Backup torque is the difference between the engine's maximum torque and the torque it makes at rated power. A tractor with higher backup torque increases its turning force when the load gets heavier, and the engine speed slows down. Backup torque helps the tractor to dig in and pull through the obstacle instead of the engine slowing or making you shift gears all the time.

Most new tractors, like the Sonalika Sikander or Tiger series, have a high backup torque percentage, which is usually between 20% and 30%. It makes the tractor more fuel-efficient because you don't have to stop and change gears every time the soil density changes. 

Why is the backup torque of a tractor important to a farmer?
