What is Neem Coated Urea, and what are its uses and benefits?
Asked By : satnam singh
Neem Coated Urea is a type of fertiliser in which urea is coated with oil taken from neem seeds to slow down the release of nitrogen in the soil.
Uses of Neem Coated Urea
-
It is mainly used to supply nitrogen to crops like rice, wheat, and sugarcane for a longer period as compared to urea.
-
It is used to improve the quality of soil, as the organic neem coat helps to maintain the microflora of the soil.
-
Farmers also use it as a source of nutrients, but also as a mild repellent for soil insects and nematodes.
Benefits of Neem Coated Urea
-
Prevents Misuse: The neem coating makes it impossible to use the urea for non-farming industrial purposes, ensuring the subsidised supply stays with the farmers.
-
Higher Efficiency: Since the nitrogen remains in the soil for a longer period, it is easily absorbed by plants. It overall results in improved production.
-
Environmental Protection: It stops nitrogen from leaching into groundwater or evaporating into the air as harmful gases.
-
Cost Savings: Farmers can save 10% to 15% of the amount of urea required for the same area of land.
