Tractors were not invented in India. John Froelich, in 1892, in the United States, invented the first tractor. 

However, in the Indian context, Dr Chandra Mohan, also known as the Father of Tractors in India, is often credited with developing one of the first indigenous or swadeshi tractors in India. His work was important because it showed that tractors could be designed and built locally, suited to Indian farming conditions.
