Indian Oil Corp Limited (IOCL) and CNH Industrial collaborated to test oxygenated diesel, also known as ED5, in tractors. ED5 is a mix of 5% ethanol in diesel. It is a big step forward for energy security and to help farmers in India. This creative plan not only helps the earth but also makes India more energy-independent by lowering its reliance on oil from Gulf countries.

ED5 Diesel: 5% Ethanol Blending

ED5 blended diesel is a cleaner fuel containing oxygen-rich compound ethanol. ED5 contains diesel and 5% sugarcane ethanol. Reduces pollutants, improves combustion, and promotes engine performance. The eco-friendly oxygenated diesel improves energy security and sustainability.

Benefits of ED5 Diesel

ED5 – 5% ethanol in diesel is a creative solution with many advantages, some of these are -

  • Reduces fossil fuel use.

  • Meets emissions and environmental standards.

  • Improves fuel efficiency and engine combustion.

  • Sugarcane waste management can improve India's agricultural sector.

  • Long-term energy and maintenance savings.

  • Cleaner burning attributes increase engine power and efficiency.

  • Significantly decreases carbon monoxide, unburned hydrocarbons, and particulate matter, hence improving air quality.

  • Supports agriculture using sugarcane ethanol, increasing incomes and minimizing waste.

Highlighting the project's significance, Narinder Mittal, India Region President of CNH, said that this collaboration shows how the private and public sectors can work together to drive India's growth and environmental progress.

Extensive Testing Underway

The partnership wants to ensure that ED5 diesel meets high standards for speed and durability before it is widely used. During the testing of oxygenated diesel, the tractor's performance is carefully analyzed to ensure that the fuel works well and lowers emissions. IOCL Director of R&D Alok Sharma highlighted that this approach might tackle major environmental issues and boost energy security.

Empowering Agriculture, Reducing Emissions

The cooperation advances sustainable farming by promoting cleaner tractor fuel, which is crucial in Indian agriculture. ED5, ethanol-blended diesel, brings the country closer to being energy-independent and protecting the earth. This project is a great example of how new ideas and collaboration can transform businesses and improve the future.

We hope this collaboration brings something amazing to the tractor industry.
