1.The argument for the ban of the particular set of pesticides has still not come to an end.

Agricultural ministry wanted 27 pesticides like Monocrotophos and Malathion to be banned claiming that they were risky for humans and animals life as there were several cases of death reported in 2017 because of poisoning caused by Monocrotophos. As well as according to them the manufactures of these pesticides don’t even provide the whole data related to toxicity and bio-efficacy of the pesticides.

While the Chemical ministry opposed it by saying not all of the mentioned pesticides are harmful to lives. But the advocacy group Association for Sustainable and Holistic Agriculture supporting the ban said that the Chemical industry shouldn’t support these pesticides at cost of farmers’ lives.

Then Bhagirath Choudhary from South Asia Biotechnology Centre opposed the ban saying that all of these chemicals are not harmful as well as these chemicals are used for more than 130 formulations so these chemicals can’t be suddenly banned. And it resulted in lifting of ban on export of these pesticides on 10th of June with a time limit of three months for the pesticide industries to submit the whole data related to these chemicals.

Rajesh Aggarwal the managing director of Insecticides India Ltd. said that we are trying to save as many chemicals that we can save from this list as ban of these chemicals will result in decrease of export revenue and competency of this industry in global generics market as well as will cause problems for small scale farmers who use these cheap pesticides.

While on the other side ASHA wants 17 out of these 27 chemicals to be banned as according to them it is not good to ignore the lives of farmers for the sake of these short term benefits.

2. Nepalese Tea as Darjeeling Tea in the Indian market.

Nepalese tea exports are going on across the borders of India and Nepal even in such tight situations between the nations. Free trade agreement of India with Nepal is one of the main reasons behind this illegal trade of Nepalese tea which don't live up to the Food Safety and Standards Authority of India(FSSAI) standards from Raxaul, Jogbani and Panitanki without a quality check.

Darjeeling tea planters have informed the customs department about this issue. Darjeeling tea association's chairman has said that it has been weak since when it all started with trucks of Nepalese tea coming to India and people are selling it as Darjeeling tea at cheap rates in Kolkata and Siliguri. This unethical trade is taking away the earning of Darjeeling tea planters whose worth is more to them this year because they are already in loss because of COVID.

Darjeeling tea planters are waiting for the action of FSSAI and custom department whose duty includes to make sure about the quality check of Nepalese Tea exports in India.

3. Kisan Credit Card

In order to provide relief and financial assistance to the farmers affected by the lockdown, the ministry of finance has released a relief package of ₹30,000 crores in May 2020. The package is for crop loan requirement of rural cooperative banks and regional rural banks.

The number includes 2.5 crore farmers who do not have Kisan credit card. The scheme will enable them to take loans to go through this adverse time of lockdown. They can take loans at the best possible minimum rate of interest. It covers farmer from animal husbandry and fishermen too.

The ministry added that they are reaching such people and providing them Kisan credit cards. The government has distributed about ₹24,586.87 crores to several banks by National Bank for Agriculture and Rural Development. The beneficial scheme of government will also give relief to about 3 crore small and marginal farmers to meet the needs of post-harvest and Kharif seed sowing.

5.Pardhanmantri Garib Kalyan Yojana

Keeping in mind the problems faced by the poor people during the lockdown and also after that the central government had allocated an amount of rupees 1.70 crores under the Pradhan Mantri Garib Kalyan Yojana. In view of this in his last address for the nation , Prime Minister Mr. Narendra Modi extended this scheme till November. Under this scheme, more than 80 crore poor families will be provided with 5 kg of wheat or rice and also 1 kg gram. He also stated the budget of the first three months itself will be 1.5 lakh crore rupees. This scheme will also benefit the migrant laborers of the country who do not have a ration card.
