How does incorrect tyre pressure affect tractor performance?
Asked By : Mayank
Tyre pressure may seem like a small detail, but it has a big effect on how your tractor works.
Too Low Tyre Pressure
Too low pressures will cause the tyre to flex, which will cause heat to build up. This creates accelerated sidewall wear, increased fuel consumption and risk of tyre damage. It can also cause the tractor to feel sluggish and unstable to drive, particularly if there is a load. On the other hand, a bit lower pressure in soft soil can improve grip, but too low is harmful.
Too High Tyre Pressure
If the pressure is too high, the tyre becomes stiff, and the contact area with the ground shrinks. That means less traction, more wheel slip and a bumpy, uncomfortable ride. The centre of the tread also wears out faster, and the soil may get compacted more, which can hurt your crop production.
Finding the Right Tyre Pressure
The right pressure depends on the tyre size, the work and the load. Check the manual or the tyre sidewall for the recommended range. Use a good pressure gauge and check the tyres when they are cold. Keeping the pressure correct helps you save diesel, protect your tyres and get better work done in the field.
