What are the tractor service checks farmers often forget?
Asked By : Rita
Farmers remember oil changes, but they forget a few simple things. These oversights can often become expensive repairs.
Commonly missed tractor service checks:
-
Air filter: A dirty filter makes the engine work harder and use more diesel. Keep it clean.
-
Fuel filter/water separator: Dirty diesel will kill the injectors. Regularly empty the water trap.
-
Coolant level: Low coolant can cause overheating in summer. Check it and also check for dirt on the radiator fins.
-
Battery terminals: Corroded terminals make it hard to start the tractor. Wipe them and check the water level
-
Greasing points: Steering, linkages and front axle require regular greasing.
-
Hydraulic Oil: Low or dirty oil will weaken the lift and damage the pump.
-
Tyre pressure: Have the right pressure, or you’ll waste fuel and wear tyres unevenly
-
Belts and hoses: Check for cracks, softness or leaks before they fail.
-
Brakes and clutch free play: Adjust them before they become a safety problem.
-
PTO shaft guard: A missing guard is dangerous. Check it and the shaft joints.
Keep a small notebook with the date and hour-meter reading of every service. It helps you stay on schedule and also raises the resale value.
