What happens if I keep using a tractor with a damaged oil seal?
Asked By : Rishi
A damaged oil seal lets oil leak out and dirt get in. This can eventually lead to expensive components being destroyed and a huge repair bill.
What May Happen
-
Oil gets on the clutch plates or brakes, causing the clutch or brakes to slip and the vehicle to stop badly.
-
The engine or gearbox may go wrong at the wrong time, in the middle of a critical job.
-
The oil in the engine, gearbox or axle will leak, and the loss will not be compensated.
-
The platform and/or brakes are filled with oil, which is dangerous to work on.
-
A small seal costs little, but ignoring it can mean repairs worth thousands.
-
A damaged seal permits dirt and water to enter and pollute the oil.
-
If the oil level is low, the parts will generate more friction and heat.
-
The bearings, gears and shafts wear out a lot faster.
What You Should Do
-
Check under the tractor for wet areas.
-
Regularly inspect and adjust oil levels.
-
Change the seal immediately if there is a leak.
-
Always get parts from an authorized mechanic.
Fixing a seal early is cheap and quick. Delaying it is expensive and risky. Treat even a small drip as an early warning sign.
