What happens if I use a rotavator that is too big for my tractor?

Farmers usually want to use a rotavator that is too large and efficient, but this will result in more problems than it will cure.
-
Bad Work Quality: The tractor does not keep a steady speed, so the tilling is uneven. You may also see more wheel slip and soil compaction.
-
Hydraulic and Safety Issues: A large and heavy rotavator may not be suitable for your tractor. The front end may be light, making it difficult to feel the steering and unsafe to turn or perform work on slopes.
-
Engine Overloading: The engine will need to work harder, resulting in increased fuel consumption and overheating. High stresses act on the PTO shaft, gearbox and clutch, which can wear out or break prematurely.
The smart move is to match the rotavator to your tractor's horsepower and lifting capacity. As a simple rule, check the manufacturer's recommendation. A correctly sized rotavator will give you better work, lower costs and a longer life for your tractor.
