What is carbon farming?
Asked By : Chirag Panjwani
Answer: By Jagat Sharma
Carbon farming refers to sustainable agricultural practices that help to store carbon in plants, trees and soil while reducing the emission of greenhouse gases. Another term used for carbon farming is carbon sequestration.
Examples of carbon farming include agroforestry, the use of organic fertilisers, intercropping, cultivation of cover crops, reduced tillage, etc. Carbon farming contributes to climate change mitigation by reducing the amount of CO2 in the atmosphere. It also helps to improve the fertility, structure and water-holding capacity of soil. Thus, overall, it helps to improve crop yields and food security. The National Mission for Sustainable Agriculture aims to promote carbon farming in India.
