Answer: By Vinay Rana
In 1914 during British rule, Tractors were first introduced in India. However, large-scale usage began in the 1950s when the government promoted mechanised farming after independence. The first assembled tractor in India was the by the brand eicher, based on German technology. However, Swaraj 724 was the first fully indigenous tractor developed in 1974 by Punjab Tractors Limited (now Swaraj Tractors) without any foreign collaboration. This was a major milestone in India's agricultural mechanisation, making the country self-reliant in tractor manufacturing.
