Why is my tractor clutch becoming hard?
Asked By : Rohit
A hard clutch pedal is tiring to use, and it's usually a sign that something needs attention. You don't have to panic, because the cause is often simple.
-
Worn Clutch Parts: A worn clutch or pressure plate can cause a heavy pedal and clutch slip.
-
Wrong Free Play: Too little or too much pedal free play prevents the clutch from engaging and disengaging properly.
-
Dry or Dirty Linkage: The pedal linkage, cross shaft and pivot points can become dry or packed with mud and dust. A simple greasing often restores the smooth feel.
-
Other Causes: The reason could also be a weak or rusty return spring or a stuck release bearing. Trouble in hydraulic clutch systems can be caused by low fluid or air in the line.
What You Should Do
Check the free play and grease the linkage first. If the pedal is still hard, visit a mechanic before it turns into a bigger repair. Also avoid resting your foot on the pedal while working.
