When is the best time to plough a field?
Asked By : Vineet Gupta
The best time to plough a field depends on the soil condition, crop cycle, and local weather. In general, ploughing should be done when the soil has the right amount of moisture, as soil that is too wet or too dry can affect tillage quality.
Ideal Conditions for Ploughing
• Plough when the soil is moist enough to break easily without sticking to the implement.
• Avoid ploughing waterlogged or excessively wet soil, as it can cause compaction and damage soil structure.
• Avoid very dry, hard soil because it requires more tractor power and fuel.
• For many crops, primary ploughing is best done after harvesting the previous crop and before preparing the field for the next crop.
Proper timing helps improve soil tilth, control weeds and crop residues, and create better conditions for seed germination and root growth.
