3.AGRICULTURE INFRASTRUCTURE FUND TO BENEFIT FARMERS AND AGRI ENTREPRENEURS

To boost the country’s agriculture sector and aid farmers and to increase the role of agriculture in GDP, Prime Minister Narendra Modi launched a financing facility of Rs 1 lakh crore under the Agricultural Infrastructure Fund, through a video conference, on August 9, 2020.

The fund will be important for farmers, agri-entrepreneurs, start-ups, agri-tech players and farmer groups looking to boost the country's agriculture infrastructure,

PM Modi also released the sixth installment of funds under the Pradhan Mantri Kisan Samman Nidhi Yojna (PM-KISAN) scheme. A transfer of Rs 17,000 crore to an estimated 8.5 crore farmers under the scheme was also initiated.

Under this scheme, a loan amount of Rs 1 lakh crore will be made available for four years. While Rs 10,000 crore will be made available in loans between 2020 - 2021. An amount of  Rs 30,000 crore will be provided in the remaining three years.  Subsidy of Three percent on interest will also be provided to farmers on loan amounting to 2 crore or less up to seven years. PM also said that all these schemes and reforms are aimed at the country’s farmers.

4.Increase in the farming sector's GDP share through Rs.1 lakh crore AIF.

On Sunday, PM Narendra Modi mentioned about the Rs.1 lakh crore financing facility for farmers under the Agriculture Infrastructure Fund. About which the federation of all India farmer Association(FAIFA) has said that this step of the government will be very helpful and maybe it will create some positive change in GDP.

The farming sector contributes 14% of the nation's GDP and helps 40% of workers to earn a livelihood. And in the present scenario, this AIF will not increase the share of the farming sector in GDP but it will also provide economic stability as COVID hasn't been successful in affecting the farming sector. This would be beneficial for Agriculture related people whether they are farmers, entrepreneurs or start-ups.

This fund will be used to provide short-term to long-term financial assistance, in building farming infrastructure like warehouses, cold storages, etc. This will mainly enhance the ease of the whole procedure of growing good quality crops and it will let farmers get a good price for their produce.

5.Export of non-basmati rice from India has gone up by 52.5% in the first two months of FY21

Due to the rise in Thai rice prices, Africa has turned to India for the supply of non-basmati rice this year. This has led to a rise in the exports of non-basmati rice from 7.3 lakh tonnes to 11.13 lakh tonnes that is by 52.5% in the first two months of FY21 compared to the same period of FY20. And these exports are expected to grow further when Bangladesh will start importing non-basmati rice from India.

According to BV Krishna Rao, president, All India Rice Exporters Association this year the exports of non-basmati rice may reach 8.64 million tonnes just like the year FY18. Due to an increased minimum support price of paddy the exports went down in the year FY19 and 20 as farmers became less interested in exporting their produce.

Due to demands of high prices for rice by rice millers the government of Bangladesh is also looking forward to importing rice from India. It will either directly buy rice from private companies or through the government-to-government scheme.

According to Suraj Agarwal, CEO, Tirupati Agri Trade the decision on the import of rice from India will be finalised by the end of this week or early next week.

As per traders, the Bangladesh government may decrease the import duty on rice from 55% to 18% as they need import of rice for the public warehouses.

According to International media reports Bangladesh government's food office has only achieved 20% of its paddy procurement target and 45% of its rice procurement target till now. And the target seems unrealistic to be fulfilled by 31 August if things keep going the way they are.

6.Become a millionaire through tomato cultivation

Tomato cultivation is one of the best choices to gain significant profit if you want to do commercial farming. It can be grown throughout the year but spring and rainy seasons provide more favorable conditions for tomato cultivation. June-July is the best time in the rainy season to grow tomato while in the spring season it is cultivated in October to November.

It takes almost 50-60 days to reach to the first yielding stage, however, the total duration accounts for almost 110-140 days.

One can go for picking five times until the last harvest. There is a difference of 10-15 days between each consecutive harvest.

A farmer can easily obtain 8-12 tonnes of tomatoes per acre. Also, it requires less economical inputs in terms of pesticides, harvesting, seed treatment, transplanting etc. Besides it also has a huge demand in the food market as tomatoes are used for numerous purposes. Therefore, tomato farming can make you a millionaire if you follow proper steps and techniques in the right direction.
