Retail tractor sales registered 2.11% growth in May 2025, with 70,623 tractors sold
India's agricultural machinery sector received a solid boost in May 2025, with retail tractor sales showing noticeable year-on-year growth of 2.11%. Compared to May 2024, major tractor manufacturers registered improved performance, hinting at stronger rural demand, favourable crop conditions, and improved financing options.
Retail Tractor Sales in May 2025 vs. May 2024: Strong Growth Across Leading Brands
In May 2025, the total retail tractor sales grew to 70,623 units compared to 69,162 units in May 2024, driven by better monsoon forecasts and timely Rabi harvests. Mahindra & Mahindra maintained the lead with robust retail tractor sales of 16,507 units. The brand improved its market share by 0.35%.
Swaraj Tractors held the second position with the sales of 13,642 tractors, witnessing a growth of 0.38% market share. Sonalika continued its strong performance with consistent retail tractor sales of 9,619 units. The brand improved its market share by 0.28% as compared to May 2024.
Escorts Kubota came in the 4th position with sales of 8,158 units, which is 6.55% higher than the sales of 7,656 units in May 2024. Massey Ferguson scored the 5th number, with a decrease of 1.69% in the overall market share in May 2025.
Year-to-Date Retail Tractor Sales: April-May 2025 vs. April-May 2024
Looking at the April to May cumulative period, total retail tractor sales were up by 4.21% compared to the same period in 2024. The top performer for April-May 2025 YTD is Mahindra & Mahindra. A strong financial year started with 30,554 units sold, marking a 0.60% increase in the market share over the previous year.
Swaraj Tractors came 2nd and recorded sales of 25,242 units from April to May 2025, reflecting a 0.07% growth from April to May 2024. Sonalika Tractors held the third position with sales of 17,406 units, as compared to the sales of 16,648 units in April-May 2024.
Escorts Kubota reported sales of 14,519 tractors in April-May 2025 and came to the 4th position with an improved market share of 0.32%. Massey Ferguson sold 14,346 units and occupied the 5th spot with a 1.49% improvement in retail tractor sales from April-May 2024.

Retail tractor sales in May 2025 showcased significant regional variations. Uttar Pradesh maintained the top position, with 22,470 units sold, contributing 17.26% to the national sales. Rajasthan followed with retail tractor sales of 17,403 units, accounting for 13.37%.
Maharashtra reported sales of 16,936 units, making up 13.01% of the market share in May 2025. Madhya Pradesh dropped to 4th with sales of 15,383 units, representing 11.82% market share. Karnataka achieved 5th position with sales of 9,541 units, contributing 7.33% to the market.
These figures highlight the strong demand in northern and western states, driven by favourable agricultural conditions and increased mechanisation.
