How drone pesticide spraying is giving Odisha a technological shift in agriculture?
टेबल ऑफ कंटेंट
In order to revolutionise pest and disease management in Odisha, the Nayagarh Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK) demonstrated the use of high-tech drones to spray pesticides on paddy fields under the guidance of officials.
The demonstration was conducted over six hectares of farmland in Sajjanpada, Nayagarh district.
The initiative was to reduce the dependency on manual labour and set the farmers free from the labour-intensive task of pesticide spraying.
This initiative by the government in Odisha is an assured way to improve productivity and promote sustainable farming practices. During the demonstration, the official educated the farmers of Odisha on the use of modern inventions and how they can lead to reducing crop loss and higher yield.
Smart Technology Integration: Better Farming
Farm mechanisation is more than a trend. It’s a way to experience better, optimised, and sustainable farming. Through the use of drones in spraying pesticides, farmers can experience multiple benefits, such as
Reduce Dependency on Manual Labour
Use of drones has reduced dependency on manual labour. This is crucial for small and marginal farmers facing labour shortages. They can operate on farmland without much investment in human resources.
Reduced Operational Cost
When farmers use high-tech drones to spray pesticides, they also reduce the operational cost of farming in unimaginable ways. For instance:
- Farmers engaged in large-scale farming can use drones at a large scale for spraying pesticides. They don’t have to hire more people for that job.
- Drone spraying reduces the excessive use of chemicals. The advanced GPS sensors of the spraying drones target only the infested or vulnerable crops. They can spray the pesticides in the right amount, without any waste or overapplication. Hence, farmers can optimise the pesticide consumption cost up to 30-40%.
- A spraying drone can cover a large area, around 20%, faster than manual spraying. This reduces the time and labour involved in the spraying, reducing the overall operational cost.
Sustainable Farming
Spraying drones contribute to sustainable farming goals by reducing pesticide drift and runoff. It lessens soil and water pollution. Also, drones spray pesticides in controlled droplet sizes, which leads to less exposure to the non-target species and humans.

Better Accessibility
Drones can help farmers to spray pesticides effectively on crops cultivated in difficult terrains such as hilly or waterlogged fields.
Reduced Health Hazards
When farmers use spraying drones, they reduce exposure to harmful chemicals. Hence, they can avoid many health concerns that usually occur due to long exposure to pesticides.
Making The Right Choice
While using drones to spray pesticides is a smart choice, farmers need to make a smart choice. There are some of the best drone models in India to consider.
- IoTech Agribot—Up to 6 acres/hr spraying capacity
- Iotechworld Agribot A6 Drone—1 acre in 7 minutes
- Gaurda Aerospace Droni Drone—upto 2-5 Km flying radius
Conclusion
Using drones to spray pesticides is a smart move to reduce reliance on manual labour, improve precision spraying, and boost overall productivity, resulting in better and higher yields. So, plan to buy the best spraying drones in India today.
