The year 2020-21 has been an astonishing year for the tractor industry as the overall tractor sales went up from 7,85,059 to 9,88,043 this year including an incline in domestic sales by 26.9% and in exports by 16.4% when compared with the year 2019-20. This incredible growth resulted in total domestic sales of 8,99,480 and export of 88,563 tractors as well as it also brought an overall increment by 25.9% during 2020-21 when contrasted with 2019-20.
This growth in tractor sales has not only led Indian agriculture towards mechanization but also allowed various tractor industries to grow. Let's look at how various brands took this opportunity and performed in 2020-21.

 

Mahindra (MahindraSwaraj and Trakstar)

The year 2020-21 has been an incredible year for Mahindra as it saw sales of 3,54,498 tractors and stood apart to be the No. 1 tractor brand in India with an aggregate of 35.88% of market shares. This year Mahindra sold out 3,43,833 tractors in the domestic market while effectively exporting 10,665 of its tractors. This prompted an overall 17.4% growth of Mahindra when contrasted with a year ago. This effectively shows us how this year Mahindra has been again successful to win the trust and keep up its bond with its clients.

 

TAFE (Massey Ferguson and Eicher)

TAFE stood apart to the No.2 tractor company of India in 2020-21 in terms of market shares with a sum of 18.22% of market shares. This year TAFE saw domestic sales of an aggregate of 1,65,802 tractors alongside 14,231 exports summarizing a total sales of 1,80,033 tractors in the financial year 2020-21. TAFE has shown enormous development in the both domestic and worldwide market bringing about total growth of 35.6% as compared to a year ago. Their persistent endeavors to satisfy their clients have unquestionably profited them this year.

 

Sonalika (Sonalika and Solis)

The year 2020-21 has been an inconceivable year for Sonalika as well, as it saw a total growth of 38.1% as compared to the year 2019-20 and stood up to be the No. 3 tractor brand of India with a total of 14.12% of market shares. This year Sonalika sold out 1,17,503 tractors in the domestic market while successfully exporting 22,023 of its tractors making it the No. 1 tractor company of India in terms of exports. This also resulted in an overall sales of 1,39,526 tractors. This shows how Sonalika tractors are loved worldwide not only in India

 

Escorts

 

Escorts has effectively held its fourth spot in the rundown this year as well while adequately showing a total growth of 24.1% in 2020-21 when contrasted with 2019-20. While encountering domestic sales of 1,01,848 tractors it encountered exports of 4,893 tractors bringing about total sales of 1,06,741 tractors and 10.80% of the total market shares.

 

John Deere

John Deere has been again in the fifth spot in the table this year with total sales of 1,01,783 tractors. It has shown a total growth of 20.9% in 2020-21 as compared to 2019-20 along with domestic sales of 85,610 tractors and exports of 16,173 tractors. In 2020-21 this international company John Deere has successfully managed to grab 10.30% of the total market shares and build its brand name in the Indian market.

 

New Holland

New Holland has successfully managed to sell 35,828 tractors domestically and export 12,280 tractors summarizing it to total sales of 48,108 tractors in the year 2020-21. This time New Holland with its consistent efforts has effectively managed to show a massive overall growth of 32.8% this year as compared to 2019-20 while grabbing 4.87% of the total market shares. This shows us the new possibilities that this emerging brand holds in Indian Market.

 

 Kubota

Kubota is another international brand that has shown very good growth in the market this year as it has shown a total growth of 30.1% during 2020-21 as compared to 2019-20. With its advanced tractors packed with powerful engines, Kubota has managed to show total domestic sales of 16,809 tractors this year as well as it has successfully managed to gain the trust of Indian farmers during this period.

 

VST shakti

 

VST stood out at the eighth spot in the table this year along with total market shares of 0.89% and total sales of 8,835 tractors including domestic sales of 8,160 tractors and export of 675 tractors. This brand may be a smaller one but it has shown an incredible growth of 23.7% in the sales this year as compared to 2019-20 that should definitely be appreciated.

 

Same Deutz Fahr

 

This years didn’t turn out to be a good year for Same Deutz Fahr as it experienced a decline in sales as well as market shares resulting in a total decline in growth rate by -3.1%. It experienced total sales of 8,058 tractors including 2,418 domestic sales and 5,640 exports during this period resulting in a total market share of 0.82%.

 

Preet

 

This years has been incredibly good for Preet as it has left behind Indofarm, Captain and Force Motors in the list and shown a massive growth of 175.6% during this duration as compared to the year 2019-20. Preet very well managed to sell out a total of 6,900 tractors during 2020-21 including 6,014 in the domestic market and 886 in the international market gaining a total of 0.70% of the total market shares. Even though Preet still has a long path ahead of it but its amazing growth rate shows us how well it is already doing and the bright future that lies ahead of this company.

 

Indofarm

 

Indofarm might have gone down by a place in the list but still, it successfully managed to experience an incline in its sales. In 2020-21 Indofarm sold out a total of 5,174 tractors including 4,611 in the domestic market and 563 in the international market. This resulted in a market share of a total of 0.52% and a good overall growth of the company by 55.9% in 2020-21 as compared to 2019-20.

 

Captain

 

Captian also has shown a decent development of 45.2% this year when contrasted with 2019-20. It is at the twelth spot in the table this year with overall sales of 4,706 tractors including domestic sales of 4,446 tractors and exports of 260 tractors. This assisted them with acquiring 0.48% of the total market share in 2020-21.

 

Force Motors

 

Force Motors has sold out a total of 4004 tractors in the domestic market along with no exports during 2020-21. It has shown a good growth of 23.2% in 2020-21 when compared to 2019-20 while grabbing 0.41% of the total market share but still, it has shown a decline in its exports this year.

 

Ace

 

Last but not least Ace being a small brand in the Indian tractor market, it has still managed to experience an incline in both its domestic and international sales by experiencing a total sales of 2,865 tractors including domestic sales of 2,591 tractors and international sales of 274 tractors. This has resulted in its growth by 27.8% this year as compared to 2019-20 and helped it to gain a market share of 0.29%.

 

The overall growth of tractor sales in 2020-21 shows us the great pace at which this industry is growing and the new possibilities it holds.
