Mahindra Acquires 800 Acres for Its ₹15,000 Crore Manufacturing Hub in Nagpur
Mahindra & Mahindra has officially taken possession of 800 acres in the Additional Butibori industrial area, Nagpur. The Maharashtra Industrial Development Corporation (MIDC) handed over the land on Monday, October 26. The plot will house an automobile and tractor manufacturing hub backed by an investment of over ₹15,000 crore.
Record Speed of Mahindra
The handover came within six months of the MoU signed at Advantage Vidarbha 2026. MIDC regional officer Mr Manohar Pote and chief engineer Mr Rajesh Zanjal handed over possession to Mahindra officials, including Mr Vinay Khanolkar, COO of the automotive division.
Mr Kapil Chandrayan of the Association for Industrial Development (AID), which helped facilitate the transfer, said the quick completion creates a favourable environment for industrial investment in Vidarbha.
Money, Land and Jobs
Mahindra has paid MIDC more than ₹706 crore for this first phase. In total, the company has been allocated 1,500 acres, and the remaining 700 acres will be handed over later. The project is expected to create more than 20,000 direct jobs, a big boost for the region's youth.
Mahindra also plans a skilling centre in Nagpur to train workers in manufacturing skills. A separate 150-acre supplier park in Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar will support the project.
When Will Production Start?
Production at the greenfield facility is scheduled to begin in 2028. The automotive unit will support petrol and diesel engines, electric vehicles and next-generation vehicle platforms. The integrated plant is planned to produce over one lakh tractors a year, alongside more than five lakh vehicles.
The tractor unit will serve both domestic demand and export markets, so a Nagpur-made tractor could soon be working in fields abroad. Building cars and tractors in one hub should also help with shared supply chains and faster production.
Tractor Gyan's Take
With land in hand and a clear 2028 target, Mahindra's Nagpur dream is moving from announcement to action. For Vidarbha, it promises industry, jobs and a stronger place on India's manufacturing map.
