A Rs. 750 crore fund called AgriSure has been introduced to support agriculture startups. Not only this, a new portal called Krishi Nivesh Portal has also been launched to speed up investment approval.

On 4 September 2024, Union Agriculture Minister Mr. Shivraj Singh Chouhan unveiled these exciting initiatives to boost India’s farm economy. Part of Prime Minister Narendra Modi's third-term policies, the announcement was made at a PUSA event in Delhi attended by bankers, investors, and startup incubators.

About AgriSURE

AgriSure is an innovative fund for start-ups and rural enterprises that will transform Indian agriculture. Basically it focuses on high-risk, high-impact, technology-driven enterprises to spur growth and promote innovation in the sector.

Agriculture accounts for 16% of GDP and is the backbone of India’s economy, with farmers being central to its success. Therefore the AgriSURE initiative aims to foster investment in agriculture startups, thereby creating numerous employment opportunities in the sector. 

Objectives of AgriSURE

The objectives of AgriSURE are as follows:

• The AgriSure Fund aims to support start-ups & Rural Enterprises that work on ideas and plans to promote agriculture.
• The fund will operate for 10 years, with the possibility of extension for two or more years. 
• The main goals of AgriSURE are to enhance agricultural value chains, develop rural infrastructure, and support Farmer Producer Organizations (FPOs). By doing so, the fund will assist start-ups and agricultural entrepreneurs.
• With the help of AgriSure, the Modi Government aims to double the income of farmers with a comprehensive vision.

The Krishi Nivesh Portal aims to streamline the investment process and increase transparency. This makes it easier for both domestic and international investors to contribute to India's agricultural development.
