How to Fix a Tractor Tyre Puncture: Step-by-Step Guide
Here is how you can easily fix a tractor tyre puncture.
- You will first loosen the wheel bolts slightly using your lug wrench before you jack the tractor. It is easier to do this when the tyre is still touching the ground.
- Jack up the tractor using the hydraulic jack. Place the jack near the tractor's axle. Slowly lift the tractor so that the tyre comes off the ground completely. Make sure the tractor is stable.
- Remove the wheel bolts completely and store them in a safe place. Carefully pull the wheel off the axle.
- Use a valve tool or a small stick to press the valve pin and release all the air from the tyre.
- Use tyre levers to carefully pry the tyre off the rim. Start at one point and work your way around. Be careful not to damage the inner tube.
- Pull out the inner tube. Inflate it slightly and then dip it into a bucket of water. Watch for bubbles. That is where the puncture is. Mark the spot with chalk or a pen.
- Dry the area around the puncture completely
- Use sandpaper to roughen the surface around the puncture
- Apply rubber solution (vulcanizing solution) on the roughened area. Wait for 2 to 3 minutes until it becomes slightly tacky
- Press the rubber patch firmly over the puncture.Press hard for at least 1 minute and let it set for 5 minutes
- Insert the inner tube back into the tyre. Insert the tyre onto the rim using tyre levers. Inflate the tyre to the correct pressure. The tyre pressure for most tractors used in India should be 12 to 16 PSI for the rear tyre and 20 to 24 PSI for the front tyre. You can check the manual for the exact value.
- Mount the wheel back on the axle. Tighten the bolts by hand, followed by lowering the tractor. Once the tyre touches the ground, tighten the bolts completely in a criss-cross manner.
How Can Farmers Prevent Tractor Tyre Punctures?
