The way we farm is changing rapidly, and Nagaland just made a giant leap into the future. The Department of Agriculture, Government of Nagaland, officially launched its Unified Digital Agriculture Ecosystem at the Directorate of Agriculture, Kohima, on Tuesday, July 7, 2026.

Inaugurated by MLA and Advisor for Agriculture, Mhathung Yanthan, alongside Director of Agriculture Sanuzo Nienu, this platform is all about modernizing the agrarian sector. In fact, the Agriculture Production Commissioner described the initiative as a "game-changer" for the state's agricultural sector.

Tech-Driven Farming for Every Village

This system is built to remove supply chain bottlenecks, increase transparency and provide real-time agricultural intelligence to farmers,  even in the most remote corners of the state. Here are the key highlights:

  • AI-Powered Market Intelligence: Offers farmers and officials price forecasts and demand analytics to know exactly what to grow and where to get the best price.
  • IoT Sensors: Precision farming will be supported by real-time soil and weather monitoring, enabling proactive responses to changing weather.
  • Advisory on Kheti Manu: The AI-powered bot provides expert advice and technical support in local languages, bridging the information gap.

What Leaders Say on This Initiative

Department leadership perfectly captured the true heart of this project when they said, "This is not just about adopting new tools; it is about providing our farmers with the agency and infrastructure they need to thrive."

They also mentioned that this ecosystem will ensure that the benefits of digital advancement trickle down to every village and that our farmers can become competitive players in the modern agri-economy. With all district-level officers being fully integrated into the system, Nagaland has become a pioneer of the Digital Agriculture Mission in the Northeast.

Tractor Gyan's Perspective

At Tractor Gyan, we see this launch as a big transformation for farming in the hill states. Historically, rugged terrain makes it extremely difficult for farmers to share data and access markets.

By harnessing the power of cutting-edge AI and localised solutions like the "Kheti Manu" bot, Nagaland is not just upgrading technology but also empowering the common farmer with tangible ways to minimise crop wastage and maximize earnings.
