India’s Tractor Production Milestones You Should Know
Whenever a factory hits a number so big it stops being a statistic and starts being a story. That's exactly what's been happening across India's tractor industry lately, one brand after another crossing production landmarks that took decades, or in some cases just a few years, to reach. Here's a look at the recent milestones.
Recent Tractor Production Milestones
Mahindra FEB Crosses 70 Lakh Tractors Production
Mahindra's Farm Equipment Business, operating under the Mahindra, Swaraj, and Gromax brands, has produced a staggering 70 lakh tractors since it began in 1963. That makes it the world's largest tractor manufacturer by volume.
The timing lines up with a record FY26, when Mahindra FEB sold over 5.26 lakh units, its best year ever, and the company already has 7 new tractors lined up for FY27.
Sonalika Rolls Out Its 20 Lakhth Tractor
Sonalika celebrated the rollout of its 20 lakhth tractor from its Hoshiarpur, Punjab, plant. The brand's first tractor came out in 1996; it took until 2020 to hit 10 lakh units, and just six more years to double that. Today, tractors built here reach farmers in 150+ countries.
CNH's Noida Plant Hits 800,000 Tractors Production
CNH Industrial's Noida facility rolled out its 800,000th tractor, and the pace stands out; it had only reached 700,000 in July 2024, meaning the next 100,000 units came in just 668 days.
Solis Hits 30,000 Yanmar Tractors Production
The Sonalika-Yanmar partnership, known for its YM tractor range, crossed 30,000 units produced, up from just 13,000 in 2022. That's 17,000 additional tractors built in four years, reflecting how much this Japan-India collaboration has scaled output while keeping the reliability YM tractors are known for.
Tractor Gyan's Take
These milestones indicate that Indian tractor manufacturing isn't just growing; it's accelerating. Sonalika needed six years to add its most recent 10 lakh units; CNH added a lakh in under two.
Whether it's a legacy homegrown brand like Mahindra crossing 70 lakh, or a joint venture like Solis-Yanmar scaling fast in just a few years, the pattern is the same: production is compounding, not just climbing.
For farmers, that steady stream of milestones means more tractors, faster replacement cycles, and continuous proof that India's factories can keep pace with demand at home and abroad.
