Mahindra to Take Possession of First 800 Acres for Largest Manufacturing Plant in Nagpur

Mahindra & Mahindra group announced its ₹15,000 crore Nagpur facility earlier this year. The company is now moving towards taking possession of the first piece of land (around 800 acres), for what's set to become its largest integrated manufacturing facility in the country.

The Land Deal Is Finally Moving

This first package of 800 acres is part of a much bigger 1,500-acre greenfield project coming up at Additional Butibori in Nagpur, Maharashtra. Mahindra is also setting up a 150-acre supplier park in Sambhajinagar to go along with it. So this isn't just one plant; it's an entire manufacturing ecosystem taking shape in Vidarbha.

How Big Will the Project Be?

Once this facility is fully up and running, it'll be capable of producing over 5 lakh vehicles and 1 lakh tractors annually. That's a massive number, and it instantly makes this Mahindra's biggest integrated manufacturing site in India. 

The supplier park at Sambhajinagar will also do double duty: feeding components not just to this new Nagpur plant, but also to Mahindra's existing facilities in Chakan and Nashik.

It's Not Just About the Plant, It's About the People

Mahindra isn't just focused on bricks and machinery. They're actively building out people's capabilities alongside the infrastructure. It means setting up processes to identify, train, and skill talent for manufacturing across multiple powertrains and future technologies. Interestingly, Mahindra is also planning to give its existing, experienced associates a shot at the new facility.

These employees will be subjected to a rigorous selection process over the next two to three years based on technical skills, behaviour, alignment with company values and how well they collaborate. Besides, a dedicated skilling center is also being set up at Nagpur, which will cover areas such as mechanical operations, welding and painting.

What Does This Mean Going Forward?

Mahindra & Mahindra has informed that more details on workforce requirements and opportunities will be shared as the project moves along, so this is very much a "watch this space" kind of update.

This is genuinely exciting news for the tractor and auto industry. When a company like Mahindra commits to building its largest-ever facility, complete with dedicated skilling programs and a supplier ecosystem, it signals long-term confidence in India's manufacturing future.

For the tractor segment specifically, an additional 1 lakh units of annual capacity could mean better supply, stronger localisation, and more job creation in Vidarbha.
